TAGA CEBU KO BAI

Hello bloggers Good Day!

Forgive me for this, this is my first attempt to do photoblog J anyway, in here I will be showing you the beauty of my place .. The Queen City of the South – Cebu City

Hmmmm? Where shall I tour you first?

Well I bet first thing’s first. Let’s try to unveil the PAST.
For everbody’s information, Cebu is rich in cultural heritage.

The Parian was the old Chinese district of Cebu; nothing much remains of this district of fine houses and shops, except for handful of old houses, like Casa Gorordo and the Jesuit Residence of 1730. The center of the Parian was the church of San Juan Bautista. The fire station at the crossroads of Sikatuna and Zulueta streets is built on the foundations of the church's convento. A small chapel nearby, dedicated to San Juan, is a mute reminder of this once sumptuous church.

Colon Street, Cebu City

Colon St, the oldest street in the Philippines, is named after Christopher Columbus. It traces its origins to the town plan laid by Legazpi. Colon, a bit run-down now, was the site of fashionable shops, offices and movie houses.

Indeed, Cebu is rich in culture. The Spaniards contributed a lot to the culture of Filipinos most especially the Cebuanos

One aspect wherein the Spaniards had a great impact on us is RELIGION. We are aware of the fact that Christianity comes from Spaniards. They passed to us their own beliefs.

Inside an octagonal kiosk made of coral stone and roofed with tile (built 1834) is a tindalo cross. The cross houses what is reputed to be the remains of a cross Magellan planted in Cebu. Cebu historians doubt if this indeed is the cross planted by Magellan because it is recorded that the Cebuano rose up against the Spaniards 17 days after the cross was planted. Some believe that the cross is as old as 1565, when Legazpi returned with a group of colonists. Miraculous stories are attributed to the cross, including the claim that it grows taller and taller year by year.

FORT SAN PEDRO The smallest, oldest triangular bastion fort in the country was build in 1738 to repel Muslim raiders. In turns, it served as a stronghold for Filipino revolutionaries.  This served as the nucleus of the first Spanish settlement in the Philippines. It has a total inside area of 2,2025 sq. Meters. The walls are 20 feet high, 8 feet thick and the towers are 30 feet high from the ground level. Work first started on May 8, 1565 with MIGUEL LOPEZ DE LEGASPI breaking the ground. After the battle of Manila Bay, Commodore George Dewey turned the fort to the local Cebuanos; then it became an American Warwick Barracks during the American Regime which was later converted into classrooms where the Cebuanos received formal education.

~ Oh oh! So much with all of those trivias. Now, let me show some of the things that could make me feel proud as a CEBUANO.

CEBU BEACHES, SOMETHING TO BE PROUD OF :)
Cebu is surrounded by a body of water, and it is undeniable that Cebu is rich in aquatic resources and so with beach attraction.
Let me show you one of the most attracting resort here in CEBU

Alegre Beach Resort

This is just a sample of a view from Alegra Resort at Mactan Island Cebu.

Alegre is Spanish word which means CONTENTMENT.
A beach resort known for its natural beauty and quiet luxury. Simplified refinement and unobtrusive efficiency.

Located some 80 km from Cebu and Mactan International Airport, Alegre Beach Resort and Spa is set amidst 7 hectares of lush tropical gardens featuring 19 luxurious cabanas with 2 spacious bedrooms, each measuring 60 sqm, with all conveniences one might expect from a five star resort.  The pristine white coral sand beaches - the resort boasts of 3 private beach coves - offer privacy in abundance and exclusive luxurious accommodation in Cebu.

Over the years Alegre has bagged numerous  awards such as the Kalakbay Resort of the Year, the UCLA Environmental Awareness Award and the Kalakbay Award for Ecotourism – Best Business Practices, which emphasizes the commitment toward highest standards in product and services as well as  the preservation of nature and  the environment. To this effect, the resort in fact, has created its own marine sanctuary, located on its foreshore to support the growth of numerous varieties of coral and to create a home for fishes since within these borders fishing is off-limits.

There are lots of tourists attraction here in Cebu City, and that's the reason why many tourists keep on visiting Cebu, this is a place for PERFECT GETAWAY.

With this, I could say I am proud to be a CEBUANO.
